Villa Beatrice
Villa Beatrice stands on a promontory above Punta Caiega, just outside Portofino, with views sweeping across the Gulf of Tigullio from Paraggi to the Cinque Terre. It was designed in the early 1910s by Gino Coppedè, the architect behind some of Italy's most fantastical buildings, as a summer retreat for the Ligurian industrialist Attilio Odero, and later took its name from Beatrice, the wife of one of its 20th-century owners.
Now part of the Belmond family alongside Splendido and Splendido Mare, the villa has been reimagined by Martin Brudnizki Design Studio. Its original façade, frescoes and external murals have been restored, and the interiors celebrate Ligurian craftsmanship: terracotta and Genoese graniglia floors, blue marble bathrooms, rattan, Murano glass chandeliers and bedside tables inlaid with Vienna straw in a nod to the Chiavari chair.
The main house holds four suites, with a fifth bedroom in La Casetta, a stone guesthouse in the garden with its own plunge pool, sleeping up to twelve. A private pool sits in the garden, a bar terrace can host thirty, and the Gothic torretta crowns the house with a 360-degree view.
The villa's 6,000 square metres of gardens lie within Portofino's protected park and run down to a sea garden with direct access to the water. Belmond's service is woven through every stay, from a 24-hour butler and private chef to a chauffeur to Splendido, spa time at its Dior Spa and transfers from Genoa airport.
