Lengishu
Lengishu is a private family home on a ridge in the Borana Conservancy, a 32,000-acre rhino sanctuary in Kenya's Laikipia highlands. From its terraces the view stretches over Borana and the neighbouring Lewa Conservancy to the plains of the Northern Frontier, with Mount Kenya on the horizon.
The house is built from local stone and Kenyan timber. Its main building holds an entrance hall, a study, a dining room with two fireplaces and a covered veranda with a pizza oven, while an infinity pool looks out over the conservancy. There is also a fitness room, a pool table, a studio and a boules court.
Six bedrooms, spread across four cottages set apart from the main house, sleep up to 12 guests. Every room faces east towards the sunrise and has an en-suite bathroom, floor-to-ceiling windows and a fireplace or wood-burning stove for cool highland evenings. Two master cottages are set apart for privacy, and two family cottages are built into the hillside.
Stays are full board, with wines, beers and spirits included, along with day and night game drives in search of the Big Five, rhino tracking with the conservancy team, bush walks, mountain biking, bush meals and sundowners, and in-house massages. Horse riding, helicopter excursions and fly camping can be arranged, and airstrip transfers are included.
