Il Palagio
Il Palagio is the Tuscan estate of Sting and Trudie Styler: a centuries-old villa reached by a cypress-lined avenue and surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and woodland in the hills above Figline Valdarno, south-east of Florence. The couple found the house in 1997, when it had fallen into disrepair, and lovingly restored the villa, its gardens and the farmland around it. It has since been their family's summer home, a place where Sting has recorded music, and the setting for many family celebrations and private concerts.
The main villa has nine double bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, and sleeps up to 18 guests. It is let as a whole, looked after by a household team with long-standing roots on the estate. Days revolve around the shaded loggia, two living rooms, a large pool and a tennis court, with a lake for swimming beyond the gardens. A private chef, cellar tastings, cooking classes, vineyard tours and horse riding can all be arranged, and music lovers can even book time in the estate's recording studio.
Il Palagio is a working farm producing its own wine, olive oil and honey, so much of what reaches the table comes from the land itself. Florence, Siena and the villages of Chianti are all within comfortable driving distance, though few guests find much reason to leave.
