Grand Blanc Maison
Grand Blanc Maison is a modern Art Deco estate in Carlsbad, north of San Diego, set beside the golf course of the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa. Once owned by Herb Alpert, the trumpeter and co-founder of A&M Records, it has since been reimagined by Andrew White, the builder known from HGTV, who spent more than a year sourcing its art, sculpture and Deco-style furnishings.
The house spreads across around 11,000 square feet in two wings, each with its own kitchen and living spaces, which makes it ideal for large families and corporate retreats. A lobby and wet bar inspired by the Beverly Hills Hotel set the tone, and there is an art gallery with a fireplace, a formal dining room overlooking the garden, a games room with a wet bar and a private cinema with a 4K projector and 128-inch screen.
Six bedrooms sleep up to ten guests. The primary suite opens onto the pool and has a sitting room with a fireplace, a wet bar, two bathrooms and a dressing room, while a second suite looks out over the golf course.
Outside, a resort-style pool and spa, a 75-foot lap pool, an outdoor bar, terraces and more than an acre of lawn invite long, sunny days. There is a gym, and through the concierge guests can book the resort's golf, tennis, pickleball, spa and restaurants next door.
