Dimora Ghirlandaio
Dimora Ghirlandaio is a private Renaissance hamlet in the hills of Impruneta, just 15 minutes from the centre of Florence. In the 15th century the estate belonged to the Florentine painter Domenico Ghirlandaio, in whose workshop a young Michelangelo learned his craft.
Carefully restored, the hamlet now holds five villas and a suite set within a park, with a Medici-style main villa at its heart. A chapel still bears its original frescoes, and a restored bastion offers sweeping views over the Tuscan countryside. Interiors mix antique character with contemporary comfort.
In all, there are 20 bedrooms for up to 37 guests, making the estate ideal for weddings, family celebrations and company retreats. A heated panoramic pool of 150 square metres is studded with stone islets, and a wellness centre in the brick-vaulted cellars has a Turkish bath, sauna, jacuzzi, sensory shower, gym and massage room.
A restaurant reserved for guests serves Tuscan dishes made with produce from the estate's organic garden and olive oil from its own groves. Daily breakfast, housekeeping and concierge are included, and wine tastings, cooking classes, horse riding, hot-air balloon flights and rounds at the nearby Ugolino Golf Club can all be arranged. The estate even has its own helipad.
