Villa Sylva
Villa Sylva sits on the Kanoni peninsula on Corfu's east coast, around ten minutes from Corfu Town, with views across the water to the little monastery island of Pontikonisi, known as Mouse Island. Set above the sea with its own beach terrace and pier, it is wonderfully private for somewhere so close to the island's capital.
Film fans may recognise it. The villa's pool and garden appeared in the opening sequence of the 1981 James Bond film For Your Eyes Only, starring Roger Moore, standing in for a villa in Spain. The pool at the centre of that scene is still there today.
Fully renovated in 2001 and updated regularly since, the house has Moroccan marble floors, light furnishings and large sliding glass doors that disappear into the walls to open the rooms to the outdoors. Nine bedrooms sleep up to eighteen guests, making it a natural choice for large families and celebrations.
The grounds hold large gardens, a 200-square-metre pool with a pool house, a 70-square-metre main terrace and five outdoor dining areas. Below, a beach terrace and a 16-metre private pier give direct access to the sea. A host and concierge, daily cleaning and a local chef cooking traditional Corfiot dishes for breakfast and dinner are part of the stay.
