Villa Olous
Villa Olous stands on an elevated hilltop in Elounda, on Crete's north-east coast, looking out over the Aegean, olive groves and the Elounda mountains. The fishing village of Plaka and the boat crossing to Spinalonga island are close by, and Elounda beach is a few minutes' drive.
The main house is grand in scale but feels like a family home. High ceilings and centuries-old fireplaces give it a timeless Greek character, and art is displayed throughout. A library with a Steinway grand piano and a games room with an antique billiards table offer something for every mood, and the living room looks straight out to sea.
Six bedrooms in the main house each have an en-suite bathroom and a private balcony or terrace, and a two-bedroom cottage sits beneath the tennis court, sleeping sixteen guests in all.
The grounds are full of surprises: a private Greek Orthodox chapel with a sea-view patio, a protected Roman water tank, sculptures and olive groves, and countless spots to sit and take in the view. There is a 12-metre infinity pool, a regulation-size tennis court, a boules pitch and a croquet lawn, and a sea-bathing terrace with steps into the deep, clear water. A chef and waiter serve three meals a day, with daily maid service, a house manager and concierge.
