Villa La Vigie
Villa La Vigie stands on the Pointe de la Veille, the wooded headland beside Monte-Carlo Beach at Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, just over the border from Monaco. Facing the Mediterranean on three sides, it looks out over the sea and across to the Principality.
The villa was built in 1902 in the Belle Époque style for Sir William Ingram, the British publisher of The Illustrated London News. In 1986 Karl Lagerfeld discovered it in a dilapidated state and restored it as his summer home, using it as a backdrop for many of his celebrated photoshoots. Today it belongs to the Société des Bains de Mer de Monaco.
Around 600 square metres unfold over three levels, with marble, columns, fireplaces, parquet floors and high ceilings throughout. The ground floor holds the entrance hall, living and dining rooms, a billiards room and library and a modern kitchen, while six bedrooms on the two upper floors, with studies and dressing rooms, sleep twelve.
A 237-square-metre terrace and a tree-filled park surround the house, with a 14-metre heated pool, pool house and jacuzzi. An electric cart and boat shuttle connect the villa with the Monte-Carlo Beach Club, and a butler, household staff and daily chef-prepared breakfast come with every stay, along with access to the Thermes Marins Monte-Carlo.
