Villa La Cassinella
Villa La Cassinella lies on the western shore of Lake Como near Lenno, a short way along the water from the famous gardens of Villa del Balbianello. Reached by private launch, it is a secluded estate of manicured gardens, lake views and quiet terraces.
Built around the turn of the 19th century, the villa was for generations the summer retreat of the Mantegazza family, a family of Como architects. It has since been carefully restored under interior designer Maggie Austin and furnished with Italian antiques, fine art and objects gathered from across Europe.
The estate is made up of several buildings: the main villa, a pool house with a cinema and gym, and a terrace house with panoramic lake views, private terraces and its own dining area. Together they offer eight bedrooms for up to seventeen guests.
At the centre of the gardens is a heated infinity pool, lined with 22-carat gold reflective tiles that catch the sunlight as it moves across the water. A floodlit tennis court is a short stroll away, and the lake itself is on hand for trips by launch to Bellagio, Varenna and the villages along the shore. A full team of private chefs, butlers, housekeepers, gardeners, boat staff and an on-site manager runs the estate.
