Villa Castiglione
Villa Castiglione crowns a rocky spur some 250 metres above the bay of Marina Piccola, on Capri's southern coast, with the Faraglioni rising from the sea below and the Gulf of Naples stretching away to the horizon. The Piazzetta, the island's famous social heart, is only a short distance away.
Its past is remarkable. The villa stands on the ruins of a Roman-era villa, one of those built on the island in the time of the emperors, and a fortified castle later rose on the same site, its limestone walls designed for defence. In the 20th century it became a grand private residence, and a careful renovation completed in 2019 has brought it into the present without losing its character.
Today, more than 1,000 square metres of interiors unfold over two floors, mixing contemporary design with island traditions, and large windows keep every room connected to the view. Five bedrooms sleep nine guests.
Outside, a 350-square-metre terrace holds the swimming pool, seemingly suspended above the sea, and tree-lined gardens lead to a belvedere looking straight out to the Faraglioni. A butler and housekeeper look after the household, and a resident chef prepares breakfast each morning, with lunch and dinner available on request.
