Villa Alegria
Salema is one of the western Algarve's most charming fishing villages, a cluster of whitewashed houses around a broad sandy beach where boats are still pulled up on the shore. Villa Alegria sits on the clifftop above it, around 50 metres from the sand and the village centre, with the ocean and rooftops spread out below.
The contemporary villa covers around 600 square metres over several levels, each with its own outlook. The principal floor brings together an open kitchen, dining and living space with an ocean-view terrace, alongside a master suite with a fireplace, a freestanding bath and a steam room. Two further king bedrooms share a large terrace, and a fourth bedroom on the lower level offers extra privacy, sleeping eight in all.
The rooftop is where the villa really comes into its own. An infinity pool looks straight out over the Atlantic and the village, surrounded by loungers and a covered outdoor kitchen and dining area, made for lunches that stretch into sunset.
Underfloor heating and air conditioning make the villa comfortable in every season, and daily housekeeping and a welcome hamper of local produce are included. For more activity, the golf, tennis, health club and spa at Santo António Resort are around 2.5 kilometres away, and Lagos is a short drive along the coast.
