The Manor House
The Manor House sits among the vines of a boutique Franschhoek estate devoted to Cap Classique, South Africa's traditional-method sparkling wine. Around it, the valley rises to the mountains that make this corner of the Cape Winelands so celebrated.
The interiors are by the award-winning South African designer Etienne Hanekom, whose work favours warm textures, carefully chosen art and an understated sense of luxury. An open-plan living and dining space opens onto a deck overlooking the vineyards, and a library, bar and lounges give the house a relaxed, residential feel. In winter, fireplaces in the suites and underfloor heating keep things cosy.
Four en-suite suites sleep eight. Three have extra-long king beds and the fourth can be made up as a twin or super king, and many have freestanding baths. Each opens onto its own balcony or terrace with views over the vines.
Wine is woven into every stay. The house has its own cellar, which doubles as a tasting room, and a private winery tour with tasting is included. Guests can join a blending session, take a picnic out among the vines or simply spend the afternoon by the heated pool. A butler and concierge look after the details, from cooking classes and art tours to hot-air balloon flights over the valley.
