The House at Lizard Island
Lizard Island lies on the northern Great Barrier Reef, around 240 kilometres north of Cairns and an hour's scenic flight across the reef. Most of the island is national park, ringed by white beaches and fringing coral, and The House sits on its own private peninsula, tucked into rocky bushland with sandy paths leading down to the water.
The architecture rises over three storeys, so that broad balconies and a rooftop terrace take in the reef from every angle. Inside, an open-plan living space is finished in stone and timber, furnished with custom pieces and hung with Indigenous artworks. There are three king suites, each with an indoor-outdoor shower, an outdoor bath and a private balcony, and a separate cottage can be added for a fourth bedroom.
An infinity pool looks over a private beach, the rooftop has day beds and a spa, and a yoga deck catches the early light. A private chef prepares menus agreed before arrival, with food, wine and premium drinks included.
What sets The House apart is how much of the island comes with it. Guests have their own boat for exploring and snorkelling, private guides for the reef and for walks through the national park, a sunset cruise aboard a Riviera yacht, spa time at the resort and full use of its facilities, with return flights from Cairns included.
