The Great House Barbados

The Great House is a beachfront estate on the west coast of Barbados, set in around two and a half acres of tropical gardens with 100 metres of Caribbean shoreline. Its style draws on European and North American influences while keeping a distinctly Barbadian warmth, and it is always taken for exclusive use.

The estate is arranged in two parts. On the seaward side, the Great House itself is joined by the Carriage House, Hillaby House and two cottages, together holding twelve air-conditioned suites for up to 30 guests. The Great Bar overlooks the infinity pool, flanked by saltwater aquariums filled with local reef fish, and a piano room and library offer quieter corners.

On the landward side are the estate's leisure spaces: a home cinema with a 120-inch screen, games room, gym, spa and massage suite, conference room and a floodlit tennis court. Gazebos and lily ponds dot the gardens, and a dining pavilion and kitchen garden support the estate's chefs.

The sea is never far from the agenda. A beach bar has a brick pizza oven, and a 33-foot motor boat with captain and a smaller speedboat stand ready for snorkelling trips, rides on inflatables or a sunset run along the coast. Butlers, housekeeping and security look after the household throughout.
