Red Chalet
The Red Chalet is a restored Belle Époque villa right on the beach in Armação de Pêra, a traditional fishing village on Portugal's Algarve coast. Built in the early 1900s as the Chalet dos Caldas e Vasconcelos, it spent more than eight decades as a Portuguese family's summer home, and it is now part of the Vila Vita Collection.
A careful restoration has kept its character, from hand-carved wooden ceilings and Moorish-style shutters to antique chandeliers and a striking central staircase, while adding every modern comfort. The main house has an open kitchen flowing into a living and dining room and a terracotta terrace facing the sea, and upstairs two en-suite bedrooms and a living room with a balcony look straight out over the water.
A brighter, contemporary guesthouse adds a duplex suite, a studio with its own entrance and a further bedroom, so the villa sleeps up to eight guests in four bedrooms. Outside, a newly added heated pool, a seafront terrace, a sauna and massage room and a firepit sit within a gated garden with direct access to the beach.
Daily breakfast, housekeeping and a welcome hamper are included, along with access to the facilities of the nearby Vila Vita Parc resort, whose restaurants include the two-Michelin-starred Ocean. A private chef, transfers and activities can be arranged. The Benagil caves are about ten kilometres away and Faro airport around 50.
