Isca Private Island
Isca is a tiny private island off Massa Lubrense, on the stretch of coast between Sorrento and Positano where the Sorrento peninsula meets the Amalfi Coast. In 1949 the great Neapolitan playwright Eduardo De Filippo discovered the island and soon made it his own, using it as a retreat for writing and reflection and welcoming friends such as Franco Zeffirelli and Nino Rota.
Today the whole island can be taken exclusively by a single group of up to 12. Roman-era remains attest to its long history as a seaside retreat, and it lies within the Punta Campanella marine protected area, surrounded by clear water and sea caves.
The main villa extends across several levels with six double bedrooms and seven bathrooms. Its interiors take a restrained Mediterranean approach, with natural materials and light, and terraces and shaded lounges open to the sea. An infinity pool melts into the horizon, and gardens follow the island's contours through an olive grove and a vegetable garden to outdoor kitchens with a pizza oven and barbecue.
Stays are all-inclusive, with a chef and waiter at every meal, selected wines, cooking classes and boat transfers to the nearest beach. Staff are on hand 12 hours a day. The island is reached by car to Massa Lubrense and a ten-minute boat ride, or by private boat from Naples in about an hour, and Capri, Positano and Sorrento are all within easy reach.
