Es Bec d'Aguila
Es Bec d'Àguila stands on a hilltop in the heart of Menorca, between the villages of Alaior and Es Migjorn Gran, surrounded by olive groves and open countryside. It was built in the 19th century by a family of Menorcan merchants as a weekend retreat for hunting and entertaining, and its name, meaning "the eagle's beak", comes from the shape of the land.
The house has been lovingly restored by its owners with the help of island craftsmen, keeping its white stone walls, original vaulted ceilings and Cuban-inspired handmade tiles. Each floor has its own mood: the ground floor light and whitewashed, the first richly coloured, the second calm and minimal. Antiques gathered from across Europe sit alongside contemporary and modernist pieces and works by artists such as Ezra Siegel, and every room looks out over the countryside.
Eleven en-suite bedrooms sleep up to 22 guests, with an extra bedroom for six children. A 25-metre pool is set among terraces, and there is a yoga studio overlooking the olive groves, a gym, a library, a cinema room, a pétanque pitch, a children's play area and hammocks among the pines.
Stays are full board, with housekeepers, cooks and a concierge looking after the house. The ground floor, one bedroom and the pool area are accessible to guests with reduced mobility. The nearest beaches of the south coast are around ten kilometres away.
