Chateau de Tourreau
Château de Tourreau is an elegant 18th-century château at Sarrians in the Vaucluse, in the Provençal countryside north-east of Avignon. Its façades, its chapel, the tree-lined avenue that leads to its door and the formal parterre behind it are protected as a historic monument.
Carefully restored and filled with European and Oriental antiques, the main residence is arranged around an internal courtyard, where fountains play, aviaries hum with birdsong and jasmine climbs the walls. It is the loveliest place on the estate for dinner on a warm evening. Indoors there are three reception rooms, a library, a formal dining room seating 15 and a large kitchen with its own dining area. Nine en-suite bedrooms include three master suites.
Next door, a converted farm building adds seven more en-suite bedrooms around a second courtyard with a lawn, lemon trees and a fountain, along with a conference and business centre. In all, the château sleeps up to 29 guests across 18 bedrooms, a rare choice for large family celebrations, wedding parties and company retreats.
For leisure there is an infinity pool, an indoor squash court and fitness area, and courts for basketball and volleyball. Avignon's Palais des Papes, the vineyards of Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Gigondas, and the slopes of Mont Ventoux are all within easy reach.
