Chateau de Chanet

Chateau de Chanet

Château de Chanet is a fairy-tale château at Vieux-Mareuil in the Périgord Vert, the green northern corner of the Dordogne, about 12 kilometres from Brantôme, often called the Venice of the Périgord. Built on medieval foundations, it took shape between the late 15th and 17th centuries, and it is protected as a historic monument in France.

The château is ringed by deep moats and crowned by a square tower topped with machicolations. Restored in 2019, it now pairs its history with modern comfort. A sweeping terrace looks out over the valley, and the grounds include Japanese gardens, a rose garden, a courtyard, a working farm and a flower farm that supplies the arrangements in the house.

Eleven bedrooms sleep up to 22 guests across the Grand Logis, the Petit Logis and the Square Tower, where a romantic suite sits at the top of the tower. Inside there are three lounges, a billiard room, a dining room and a contemporary kitchen, alongside a caterer's kitchen and an outdoor kitchen. A heated pool faces the château, and there is a padel court, a pétanque court and walking trails from the door.

A house manager is on call around the clock, and breakfast is delivered daily. A private chef, cooking classes, wine tastings, truffle hunting, canoeing and hot-air balloon flights can all be arranged. The château is open all year and welcomes pets.
