Can Miquelet
Can Miquelet is a lovingly designed hideaway in the heart of the Serra de Tramuntana, the mountain range on Mallorca's north-west coast that is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Set on a 13-hectare estate between Deíà and Sóller, it sits just above the hamlet of Llucalcari, looking down over the famous cove of Deíà.
The estate is scattered with orange, grapefruit and olive trees, and the house is a calm, contemplative place to stay, celebrated for some of the most beautiful sunsets on the island. Three double suites and a twin suite all have generous bathrooms and dressing areas. Two drawing rooms with fireplaces, a study, a kitchen and dining room, covered terraces, a garden and a private pool complete the house.
The hosts look after daily housekeeping, serve breakfast each morning and can arrange grocery shopping, a chef or a driver. They are also on hand with tips on hiking routes, hidden coves and the best places to eat.
The surrounding villages have long drawn artists and writers, among them Robert Graves in Deíà and Chopin in Valldemossa. Wander their cobbled streets, stop for a coca de patata, then head back up the mountain as the light turns gold.
