Thailand has been a luxury villa destination for over two decades, with the most established markets in Phuket (particularly the west coast) and Koh Samui. The country offers a compelling combination of natural beauty, deep hospitality traditions, sophisticated villa design, and world-class wellness infrastructure at price points well below the Caribbean or Mediterranean.

The trade-offs: The monsoon season affects both coasts but at different times: Phuket and the Andaman coast see heavy rain May through October, while Koh Samui and the Gulf coast are wettest September through December. Flight times from Europe are long (11 to 13 hours), making Thailand less suitable for short breaks. Development quality is inconsistent; outside top-tier villas, finishes and maintenance can disappoint. Tourist infrastructure in Phuket (particularly Patong and parts of Bang Tao) feels overdeveloped and chaotic. Safety standards can vary, particularly for road travel and water sports, and we advise using vetted operators.

Thailand works best for clients comfortable with longer stays (10+ days to justify travel time), prioritising service, wellness, and value, and open to cultural immersion. It is not a direct substitute for the south of France, but for the right brief it offers something genuinely special.
